General summary

Provides leadership and strategic direction to the marketing and strategic communications staff, as well as marketers and designers across the University in other departments.

Major duties

  • Directs the design and production staff and oversees the production planning, project bidding, design, production and distribution of critical University publications and marketing tools.
  • Oversees design and production of institutional projects, including the University magazine, commencement and convocation programs, directories and elements of materials for signature events.
  • Plans and directs marketing projects from concept to delivery and oversees the creation of assets. Delivers top quality products on time and on budget.
  • Executes marketing, promotion, and communication strategies through paid media and critical University marketing materials.
  • Determines priorities and strategies needed to achieve University goals and initiatives.
  • Collaborates with marketers and designers across University departments to keep University branding and design consistent. Serves on University committees to provide marketing and creative expertise for individual units and the institution as a whole.
  • Supports the trademarks and licensing function by communicating brand and licensing standards across University departments. Works with licensed vendors to ensure items produced or sold bearing the University marks are consistent with University standards.
  • Ensures integration of paid media with owned and earned media across all media channels.

Minimum qualifications

Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.

Required education

  • Bachelor's degree in related field from an accredited institution.

Required experience

  • Five years' relevant experience.
  • Supervisory or lead experience.
  • Strong interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.

Physical requirements

Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.

Working conditions

Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
