Job Description

General summary

Provides confidential mediation and counseling services to resolve both academic and nonacademic disputes and other problems for members of the University community, including students, faculty and staff.

Major duties

  • Resolves conflict, coordinates communication and investigates appeals and complaints for staff and students.
  • Coordinates grade appeals, program dismissal appeals and hardship withdraw appeals for undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Evaluates issues to determine appropriate action. Ensures equitable access to information, processes and resources.
  • Identifies problem areas, patterns of problematic behavior, policies and procedures. Recommends appropriate change.
  • Educates the University community about resources available to resolve conflicts and improve student retention.
  • Collaborates with University departments to improve transparency of policies for faculty, staff and students.

Minimum qualifications

Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.

Required education

  • Master's degree in related field from an accredited institution.

Required experience

  • Three years' relevant experience.
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills.
  • Conflict resolution and problem solving skills, including active listening.

Physical requirements

Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.

Working conditions

Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
