General summary

Coordinates and manages the process for providing support services to students with disabilities campus-wide. Ensures compliance with state and federal regulations governing access and accommodations for disabled persons.

Major duties

  • Directs department operations. Manages the budget, establishes direction and work flow for the office and develops and implements policies and procedures.
  • Researches current legal issues, trends and best practices to ensure the University remains in compliance with laws and regulations and to ensure disabled students have a successful transition to University life.
  • Determines appropriate accommodations for students. Collaborates with administrators and staff to implement accommodations. Provides advocacy on-campus.
  • Provides assistance and advice to students with disabilities to ensure success by counseling students transitioning from high school to the University. Provides guidance in terms of adjusting to a disability. Determines reasonable expectations for independence.
  • Hires, trains, evaluates and supervises staff and student employees.

Minimum qualifications

Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.

Required education

  • Master's degree in related field from an accredited institution.

Required experience

  • Three years' relevant experience.
  • Supervisory or lead experience.
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of federal and state regulations governing access and accommodations for disabled persons.

Physical requirements

Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.

Working conditions

Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
