General summary

Directs the internal audit function through planning and conducting financial, operational, compliance and information technology audit examinations.

Major duties

  • Conducts financial, operational, compliance, and information technology audit examinations to assess internal control within University platforms, including networks, operating systems, databases and applications.
  • Develops annual university-wide audit plan based on risk assessment. Establishes and maintains internal audit charter, policies, and procedures.
  • Ensures the safeguarding of the availability, integrity and confidentiality of University data.
  • Ensures compliance with applicable laws, regulations and policies. Evaluates the effectiveness of operations and identifies inefficiencies.
  • Provides independent, objective assurance and advisory services designed to add value and improve University operations. Monitors implementation of audit recommendations to ensure corrective actions have been implemented to mitigate risks.
  • Acts as a consultant to the University community by participating in relevant committees to ensure proper internal controls are in place.
  • Monitors and responds to concerns posted through the University’s whistleblower hotline. Conducts special investigations or reviews based on hotline tips or management requests.
  • Maintains working knowledge of university policies, emerging audit issues, accounting standards, and legal changes. Participates in training seminars and professional organizations to stay informed and develop professional contacts.
  • Hires, trains, evaluates and supervises student employees.

Minimum qualifications

Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.

Required education

  • Bachelor's degree in related field from an accredited institution.

Required experience

  • Five years' relevant experience.
  • Experience of auditing.
  • Managerial experience.

Physical requirements

Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.

Working conditions

Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
