General summary

Advises, counsels, and directs students and staff on immigration and international matters.

Major duties

  • Analyzes student situations in accordance with immigration law, answers questions related to compliance with federal immigration law. Serves as a liaison with University departments and external organizations, including the U.S. Department of State and bureaus within the Department of Homeland Security.
  • Manages, analyzes, and resolves issues with immigration-related software and information systems in collaboration with information technology. Manages and resolves system errors. Remains current on software specifications.
  • Presents workshops to students. Leads student outreach and recruiting events.
  • Trains and supervises advisers and student employees.

Minimum qualifications

Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.

Required education

  • Master's degree in related field from an accredited institution.

Required experience

  • Three years' relevant experience.
  • Supervisory or lead experience.
  • Knowledge of U.S. immigration policies and regulations.
  • Student visa immigration advising experience.

Required other

  • U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident to meet the federal requirements to serve as a Designated School Official (for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security) and Alternate Responsible Officer (for the U.S. Department of State).

Physical requirements

Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.

Working conditions

Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
