General summary

Assists in directing the University’s study abroad programs, activities and international outreach operations.

Major duties

  • Oversees, establishes, implements, and maintains daily office functions, academic policies, and procedures of the office in collaboration with the director and other University departments. Participates in strategic planning and program assessment to assess and improve processes. Assists in the revision of program policies and procedures.
  • Manages study abroad programs in various countries. Collaborates with faculty directors. Coordinates communication with students and faculty to facilitate student enrollment.
  • Manages study abroad advising. Advises enrolled and perspective University study abroad students on academic and cultural issues related to study abroad programs and destinations.
  • Designs, coordinates, and conducts student and faculty pre-departure orientations. Manages incoming exchanges and visiting students, including application processing, communication, orientation, and advising support during study. Evaluates foreign University credits.
  • Assists the director in developing and implementing a recruitment strategy. Researches market trends and best practices. Markets study abroad programs. Designs and conducts outreach and recruiting events, including fairs, information sessions, and University-wide events.
  • Maintains and improves communication with other University departments. Represents the University and participates in committees across campus.
  • Manages and oversees budgets related to external scholarships and faculty development.
  • Supervises staff and student employees. Develops, leads, organizes, and implements professional development, training, and team building activities.

Minimum qualifications

Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.

Required education

  • Master's degree in related field from an accredited institution.

Required experience

  • Three years' relevant experience.
  • Supervisory or lead experience.
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
  • Experience with student advises.
  • International work or study experience.
  • Experience and ability to work with diverse populations.
  • Experience in working with third-party providers.
  • Experience in crisis intervention and conflict management.

Required other

  • Ability to travel both domestically and internationally.
  • Proficiency in a second language.

Physical requirements

Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.

Working conditions

Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
