General summary
Advises the University community on all campus student employment issues, including the implementation of policies, procedures and pay rates.
Major duties
- Advises University staff on student employment policies and procedures. Monitors, reviews and documents student pay rate exceptions.
- Oversees the university's job posting portal. Guides staff, students, and external employers on its use. Coordinates with the portal's vendor for solutions. Verifies that all employers on the portal are legitimate and offer suitable opportunities for students and recent graduates.
- Assists campus staff and students with employment questions, mediation, policies, procedures, discipline, and pay rates. Responds promptly and accurately with confidentiality for all parties.
- Maintains University’s student employment section on the department website.
- Handles employment verifications for current and former student employees. Ensures timely, accurate processing while maintaining confidentiality. Maintains a report of verification activity.
- Plans and implements the student employee appreciation week celebration and recognition. Coordinates the student and supervisor of the year award programs. Plans and hosts reception to honor nominees and winners.
- Acts as backup for the office manager regarding payroll assistance for student employees. Conducts orientation and workflow training for all university student staff and maintains their personnel profiles.
- Facilitates career readiness education for student employees. Organizes job fairs. Recruits employers, facilitates job postings and promotes events to the community.
- Coordinates a student employment summit to educate campus student supervisors on current trends and issues in campus student employment.
- Manages community service work study program. Responsible for promotion of work study community service program.
Minimum qualifications
Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.
Required education
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited institution.
Required experience
- Three years' relevant experience.
- Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Knowledge of state and federal regulations and University policies regarding employment.
Physical requirements
Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.
Working conditions
Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
