General summary
Directs the landscape services and transportation services divisions of Facilities Management.
Major duties
- Directs and plans operational aspects of University Landscape Services. Establishes policies and procedures for the design and maintenance of University grounds and athletic fields.
- Hires, trains and evaluates the performance of full-time and part-time staff.
- Oversees labor relations. Ensures a productive and safe work environment and compliance with human resources policies and procedures and collective bargaining agreements.
- Coordinates and implements plans for future facilities and renovations.
- Manages operating budgets for landscaping and transportation services and equipment.
- Directs and evaluates outdoor maintenance and first impression quality. Identifies and implements necessary service or operational changes.
- Plans and manages acquisition, maintenance and disposition of equipment and fleet vehicles.
- Directs recycling, sustainability and waste reduction initiatives for the University.
- Represents the department in University planning groups.
Minimum qualifications
Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.
Required education
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited institution.
Required experience
- Five years’ relevant experience.
- Supervisory experience.
- Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
- Project management experience.
- Budget management experience.
- Experience managing contractors or vendors.
- Experience administering a collective bargaining agreement.
Required other
- Commercial Pesticide License (3A, 3B, and 6).

- Supervisory experience in a collective bargaining environment.
Physical requirements
Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.
Working conditions
Work is performed with exposure to any number of elements which may occasionally require some precautions such as safety glasses, protective clothing, ear protection, etc.
