General summary
Curates the University’s regional history collection.
Major duties
- Manages and curates the regional history collections unit, including manuscripts, photographs, audiovisual materials and other formats documenting individuals, organizations and businesses.
- Analyzes current condition for collections and implements appropriate preservation measures for use and long-term storage. Identifies appropriate vendors and suppliers. Ensures consistency and secure access to collections through the creation and implementation of policies and procedures.
- Plans, teaches and assesses instruction in collaboration with faculty and department leadership. Develops print and electronic based instructional materials. Identifies digital content to supplement collections-based instruction.
- Provides research, reference and instruction services to the University and the community using collections, databases and other resources.
- Analyzes history collections for potential digitization projects based on research value for use by the University faculty, students and other researchers. Prepares any supporting information about digitized collections. Organizes images for digitization and prepares metadata for each image.
- Oversees growth of the regional history collections through acquisition and purchases. Maintains donor relations for current acquisitions. Searches, acquires and purchases materials for additions to the collections. Monitors all endowments and gift funds.
- Hires, trains, evaluates and supervises staff and student employees.
Minimum qualifications
Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.
Required education
- Bachelor's degree in related field from an accredited institution.
Required experience
- Three years’ relevant experience.
- Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Knowledge of integrated library management software and applications.
Required other
- License to operate order picker lift truck required by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), or ability to obtain license within probationary period.

- Certified Archivist.
Physical requirements
Light work with some physical demands such as continuously lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds, but rarely moving more than 25 to 50 pounds.
Working conditions
Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
