General summary

Oversees the day-to-day operations of landscaping and maintenance of grounds for designated projects and areas of responsibility.

Major duties

  • Prepares and implements daily landscape maintenance plans that prioritize needs. Creates work orders for work needed across assigned areas for the crew and by other departments.
  • Monitors budgets, and reviews and approves expenses for supplies and equipment.
  • Inspects work for compliance with work standards and project requirements. Ensures compliance with safety standards.
  • Communicates with University departments, vendors, and contractors to schedule work or provide information on the status or timelines of projects.
  • Maintains records of landscape conditions, treatments, equipment usage, and other necessary information.
  • Serves as designated on-call contact person for the department after hours and on weekends for events and emergencies.
  • May serve on relevant committees as assigned.
  • Hires, trains, evaluates, and supervises staff and student employees. Assures that operations comply with pertinent collective bargaining agreements and University policies and procedures.

Required education

  • Bachelor's degree in related field from an accredited institution, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required experience

  • Three years’ relevant experience.
  • Supervisory or lead experience.
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.

Required other

  • Commercial Pesticide Application License (in categories 3a, 3b, and 6) or obtain within 90 days of the date of hire.
  • Must be able to work outside exposed to temperature extremes.
  • Ability to work irregular shifts and extended hours, including evenings and weekends.

Desired qualifications

Desired experience

  • Supervisory or lead experience in a collective bargaining environment.
  • Experience administering a collective bargaining agreement.

Physical requirements

Light work with some physical demands such as continuously lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds, but rarely moving more than 25 to 50 pounds.

Working conditions

Work is performed with exposure to any number of elements which may occasionally require some precautions such as safety glasses, protective clothing, ear protection, etc.
