General summary

Procures goods and services for University departments. Develops requests for proposal, purchase orders, contracts and supporting analytical documents.

Major duties

  • Prepares and processes bid proposals, purchase orders and contracts for University related service and labor agreements. Conducts meetings, vendor interviews and contract negotiations. Analyzes and documents bid responses to ensure compliance with bid specifications and purchasing policies.
  • Prepares and processes bid proposals for materials for strategic contracting needs.
  • Resolves discrepancies, including pricing, supplier performance and other issues. Ensures suppliers meet University service and quality requirements.
  • Develops objectives, goals, tactics and measures to achieve the goal of each commodity strategy, including savings, supplier consolidation and inventory reduction.
  • Advises University departments and vendors on procurement policies and procedures. Assists with purchasing diversity procurement initiatives.
  • Manages special projects as assigned by the purchasing agent, including requests for proposals on designated initiatives.

Minimum qualifications

Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.

Required education

  • Bachelor's degree in related field from an accredited institution.

Required experience

  • One year's relevant experience.

Physical requirements

Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.

Working conditions

Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
