General summary

Direct the operations of the Logistical Services units, including planning, managing and establishing policies and procedures for the purchasing, maintenance stores, surplus sales, postal operations and receiving and distribution areas.

Major duties

  • Directs the University’s purchasing function, including bidding, negotiation and administration of large University contracts and purchases. Establishes purchasing policies and procedures for the University community while ensuring compliance with relevant government regulations.
  • Develops short and long-range plans for Logistical Services. Oversees logistical services budget.
  • Oversees the maintenance stores operation, including surplus sales. Oversees postal, receiving and distribution operations.
  • Builds and maintains internal and external customer, vendor and community relations to ensure successful fulfillment of the department mission.
  • Directs surplus stores to manage the proper disposal of University assets and prevent as much as possible from reaching the landfill.
  • Directs the University's diversity business program.
  • Serves as a resource to University leadership to ensure purchasing decisions are good for the University community that fit within policies and departmental needs.
  • Supervises professional, supervisory, clerical and bargaining unit employees. Resolves personnel and operational issues and directs the efforts of the management staff.

Minimum qualifications

Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.

Required education

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited institution.

Required experience

  • Eight years' relevant experience.

Required other

  • Supervisory experience.
  • Budget management experience.
  • Experience administering a collective bargaining agreement.

Physical requirements

Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.

Working conditions

Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
