General summary
Oversees the Office of Clinical Experience. Evaluates the pre-internship clinical experiences and final internship experiences for teacher education candidates. Maintains formal partnership agreements with school settings across the state. Manages the data collection and analysis required for state and national yearly reports and national accreditation.
Major duties
- Reviews drafts and helps facilitate completion of offer letters and compensation worksheets. Creates Memorandum of Understanding and Affiliation Agreements with partner districts and legal consultation.
- Maintains contacts with University departments, peer institutions, Michigan Department of Education, and Michigan Pre K-12 districts. Creates new teacher candidate placement sites and troubleshooting challenging sites.
- Collaborates with faculty, community partners, and teacher candidates in undergraduate and advanced programs to place teacher candidates in clinical experiences. Prepares teacher candidates for clinical experiences throughout their professional program.
- Tracks all placements for assigned programs. Registers and ratifies teacher candidates for pre and final internship experiences. Facilitates all clinical experience application sessions including processing pre-internship and internship applications. Communicates concerns with advisors and faculty.
- Evaluates School University Partnership Team meetings with all stakeholders. Represents the office and University on various state and national committees.
- Creates and processes early release contracts for Teacher Candidates. Counsels teacher candidates and designs effective plans for improvements as well as monitoring progress.
- Assists and participates in writing state and national reports. Ensures compliance with Michigan Department of Education guidelines and Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation standards for accreditation.
- Supports clinical experience assessment system for the Office of Clinical Experiences in collaboration with faculty in undergraduate and advanced programs. Oversees website content, background check procedures, State Continuing Education Clock Hour procedures, and Michigan Department of Education documentation.
- Hires, trains, evaluates and supervises staff and student employees.
Minimum qualifications
Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.
Required education
- Master's degree in related field from an accredited institution.
Required experience
- Three years' relevant experience.
- Supervisory or lead experience.
- Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
- Budget management experience.
- Experience working in a Pre K-12 School setting.
- Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently.
- Excellent customer service and public relations skills.
- Proficiency in office software, including word processing, spreadsheets and presentation software.
Required other
- Current or past Pre K-12 teacher certification or credentialing as a related service personnel, such as a speech pathologist or a school psychologist.
- Ability to travel.
Physical requirements
Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.
Working conditions
Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
