General summary
Supervises multi-trade teams who repair and maintain University buildings and utilities.
Major duties
- Manages and prioritizes work orders, projects and special requests. Documents project requirements, materials, budgets and timelines.
- Supervises skilled trades staff, technicians, and contractors following collective bargaining agreements and University policies and procedures.
- Inspects project work for compliance with work standards and project requirements. Ensures compliance with safety standards.
- Communicates with building occupants, University groups, vendors and contractors to provide information on the status or timelines of projects.
- Tracks all spending and charges the costs to the correct projects. Ensures that all spending is accounted for.
- Manages employee job production and ensures that hours are accounted for on the correct work orders and projects. Updates project records.
- Addresses on call emergencies as needed.
- Hires, trains, evaluates and supervises staff and student employees.
Minimum qualifications
Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.
Required education
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited institution, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required experience
- Three years' relevant experience.
- Supervisory or lead experience.
- Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
Required other
- Ability to work irregular shifts and extended hours, including evenings and weekends.

- Supervisory experience in a collective bargaining environment.
- Project management experience.
- Budget management experience.
- Experience administering a collective bargaining agreement.

- MIOSHA required training in Confined Space, Asbestos and Lead Base Awareness, Arc Flash, Lift Training, Supervisors Role in Safety, Scaffolding, Personal Protection Equipment, Air Monitoring in Manholes, Biological Hazards.
Physical requirements
Light work with some physical demands such as continuously lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds, but rarely moving more than 25 to 50 pounds.
Working conditions
Work is performed with exposure to any number of elements which may occasionally require some precautions such as safety glasses, protective clothing, ear protection, etc.
