Program Manager Sustainability and Recycling

General summary

Managers recycling, sustainability and waste reduction programs for the University campus.

Major duties

  • Leads the creation and implementation of new programs and research project collaborations to seek new revenue ventures to minimize waste, both within the University and also with local government agencies and outside entities.
  • Manages budgetary responsibility. Assists with vendor contracts and services.
  • Works with organizational departments and colleges to develop a strategic plan based on University long-term institution's strategic plans.
  • Leads data collection, analysis, public reporting and communications for internal and external campus sustainability reporting.
  • Ensures the environment is a welcoming, inclusive, student-focused facility while maintaining exceptional customer service and program delivery.
  • Provides containers and signage to manage waste reduction and recycling at special events and campus activities.
  • Assists student researchers with campus-wide recycling initiatives.
  • Hires, trains, evaluates and supervises staff and student employees.

Minimum qualifications

Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.

Required education

  • Bachelor's degree in related field from an accredited institution.

Required experience

  • Five years' relevant experience.
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience in sustainability management across multiple disciplines.

Physical requirements

Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.

Working conditions

Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
