General summary

Oversees and manages the costume shop for University theatre productions.

Major duties

  • Supervises and instructs student assistants and crews in properly constructing, altering, and fitting costumes.
  • Oversees and collaborates with faculty on the patterning and constructing period garments. Ensures that deadlines are met.
  • Maintains budgets for the costume shop, including seasonal and main stage show budgets.
  • Produces costumes for productions.
  • Provides instruction for the costume technology portions of stagecraft courses.
  • Participates in production meetings, dress rehearsals, and recruiting activities of students as needed.
  • Hires, trains, evaluates, and supervises student employees.

Minimum qualifications

Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.

Required education

  • Bachelor's degree in related field from an accredited institution.

Required experience

  • Two years’ relevant experience.

Physical requirements

Moderate work occasionally working in difficult position or with physical demands such as continuously lifting or moving materials from 25 to 50 pounds and occasionally lifting or moving materials greater than 50 pounds.

Working conditions

Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
