General summary
Provides engineering services for the construction and maintenance of University facilities.
Major duties
- Establishes project scope, budgets, and schedules for assigned projects. Selects and contracts with design professionals and team members. Provides technical review on building systems designs through all phases of the project.
- Monitors project progress and maintains project records. Ensures compliance with budget and contract specifications and applicable safety and building codes.
- Conducts on-site technical inspections to ensure professional engineering standards. Identifies and resolves problems relating to engineering practices.
- Ensures documentation of emergency generation operation hours for compliance and monthly testing.
- Reviews and evaluates facility emergency lighting for repair and updates.
- Responds on an on-call basis to critical issues involving the campus electrical system.
- Communicates with project members and reviews information to ensure compliance with timelines.
- Provides work direction and feedback to full-time and part-time staff. Mentors electrical engineering students working in facilities management areas.
- Hires, trains, evaluates, and supervises student employees.
Minimum qualifications
Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.
Required education
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited institution.
Required experience
- Five years’ relevant experience.
- Supervisory or lead experience.
- Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
- Project management experience.
- Budget management experience.
- Experience managing contractors or vendors.
Required other
- Professional Engineer license.
Physical requirements
Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.
Working conditions
Work is performed with exposure to any number of elements which may occasionally require some precautions such as safety glasses, protective clothing, ear protection, etc.
