General summary

Provides leadership in the development and implementation of the University’s master plan and design of capital improvement and new construction projects.

Major duties

  • Manages design of major building projects, ensuring architectural designs are consistent with the University’s master plan, design requirements and professional standards.
  • Prepares and updates the University’s master plan.
  • Provides capital outlay plans and budget proposals for submission to the State of Michigan.
  • Prepares and presents reports and analyses for University leadership.
  • Manages space allocation procedures, reviews space requests and provides recommendations to the space allocation committee.
  • Represents the division in campus planning committees and to external planning groups.
  • Hires, trains and evaluates performance of full-time and part-time staff.

Minimum qualifications

Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.

Required education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture from an accredited institution.

Required experience

  • Eight years’ relevant experience.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Project management experience.
  • Budget management experience.
  • Experience managing contractors or vendors.

Required other

  • State licensed Architect.

Physical requirements

Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.

Working conditions

Work is performed with exposure to any number of elements which may occasionally require some precautions such as safety glasses, protective clothing, ear protection, etc.
