General summary

Directs the office of student engagement. Performs strategic planning, fiscal responsibility, and oversight of services.

Major duties

  • Provides vision and direction for all functional areas of the department including large campus programs, oversight of student organization agencies, fraternity and sorority life, and training and development.
  • Coordinates with the Director of the Student Center regarding operational vision to maximize space utilization of physical spaces and overall engagement within the Student Center.
  • Develops, reviews, and revises contracts involving student organizations and events. Establishes policies and protocols regarding legal issues, including student assessment fees, tax and contract rules, and general liability and risk management issues.
  • Develops and oversees departmental budgets to ensure the fiscal integrity and funding of the department and student activities.
  • Researches trends, student development best practices, and principles to develop short and long-term strategies that best meet student needs.
  • Oversees the creation, development, and implementation of appropriate assessments that can be utilized to measure the effectiveness, efficiencies, and impact of programs and services.
  • Creates and maintains partnerships with students, faculty, and staff to promote student success.
  • Hires, trains, evaluates, and supervises staff and student employees.

Minimum qualifications

Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.

Required education

  • Master's degree in related field from an accredited institution.

Required experience

  • Five years' relevant experience.
  • Supervisory or lead experience.
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Budget management experience.

Physical requirements

Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.

Working conditions

Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
