General summary
Maintains and oversees a multi-platform enterprise server and storage operation in a lead role.
Major duties
- Monitors University multi-platform server operations and network environments detecting hardware and software problems, and provides accurate and timely problem resolution and communication.
- Assists in maintaining data confidentiality, integrity, and availability.
- Coordinates and monitors enterprise batch processing. Ensures jobs and process flows are current and documented. Assists programming staff and functional clients with new program set-up and testing.
- Analyzes and resolves user problems, and operational and network issues ensuring the majority are resolved at their level. Develops, tests, and maintains a complex set of troubleshooting techniques used to quickly resolve issues. Escalates problems to the next level.
- Installs, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs server and storage hardware.
- Assists faculty and staff with problem-solving, production support, and operational issues.
- Assists in maintaining a secure physical environment for data center operations by following established department and University policies. Monitors appropriate physical security systems such as video surveillance and access logs.
- Completes special projects as assigned promptly.
Minimum qualifications
Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.
Required education
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited institution.
Required experience
- Three years’ relevant experience.
- Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience documenting procedures.

- Must be available to provide system maintenance or end-user support outside of normal business hours.

- Relevant industry certification.
Physical requirements
Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.
Working conditions
Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
