General summary
Designs and reviews construction drawings, develops product specifications for construction and maintenance departments. Supports University project managers, operations managers, trade supervisors, and directors while managing electrical projects and electrical utility distribution system. Perform submittal review, field verify for code compliance, and ensure University standards are being met. This position provides direction to all skilled trade electricians, architects, engineers, and construction managers on capital projects.
Major duties
- Oversees project management to verify code compliance and University standards are met.
- Provides technical support to architects, engineers, electricians, and project managers.
- Manages electrical utility, schedule and perform preventative maintenance including electrical utility shutdowns on medium voltage switchgear, transformers, and secondary gear. Provide on call 24-hour emergency response and support.
- Provides support to operational and maintenance services.
- Maintains subject matter knowledge to support and train staff.
- Prepares detailed project plans, budgets, drawings, and specifications.
- Inspects work to ensure compliance with project requirements, contract specifications, timelines and budgets.
- Updates project tracking systems and ensures all project and building records are accurate.
- Hires, trains, evaluates and supervises staff and student employees.

Required education
- Bachelor's degree in related field from an accredited institution, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required experience
- Five years' relevant experience.
- Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Experience with electrical project management.
- Budget management experience.
- Experience managing contractors or vendors.
- Knowledge of electrical design.
- Knowledge of National Electric Code.
- Knowledge of electrical inspection.
- Ability to conduct on-site inspections.
Required other
- State licensed Master Electrician
Physical requirements
Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.
Working conditions
Work is performed in an environment with exposure to somewhat disagreeable or hazardous conditions.
