General summary

Oversees the daily operations and functions of the vision clinic.

Major duties

  • Oversees appointment scheduling and clinic assignments to ensure patient needs are met and adequate intake information is obtained prior to examinations.
  • Obtains authorizations for services and oversees the documentation of patient information and patient financial records in electronic practice management software.
  • Purchases optical and non-optical equipment, including frames needed for clinic and adaptive aids and accessories.
  • Maintains productivity of entire clinic to ensure expenses do not exceed revenue.
  • Maintains contact with community referral sources.
  • Supports the training of graduate students from the Department of Blindness and Low Vision Studies.

Minimum qualifications

Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.

Required education

  • Some college coursework from an accredited institution.

Required experience

  • Three years' relevant experience
  • Strong office software skills.
  • Experience with budget tracking and reconciliation, accounts receivable, billing, cashiering, and payroll.
  • Working knowledge of health insurance practices, policies, and diagnostic and procedure codes.

  • Experience providing guidance to students or other workers.

Physical requirements

Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.

Working conditions

Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
