General summary
Manages building security systems and processes for all University properties.
Major duties
- Establishes and maintains procedures and standards to provide secure internal and external access to all University properties.
- Hires, trains and evaluates performance of staff.
- Monitors and trains parking assistants in use of card software and equipment.
- Communicates with building coordinators to provide information on security procedures and standards and resolve access problems.
- Establishes and monitors budgets for assigned departments. Manages projects related to building security upgrades.
- Reviews technical drawings and construction plans for new or renovated buildings and works with designers and engineers to provide technical requirements for building security systems.
- Monitors security access software and resolves system problems.
- Works with vendors of security hardware and software to purchase equipment and services.
Minimum qualifications
Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.
Required education
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited institution, or Bachelor’s degree in a non-related field from an accredited institution combined with relevant experience.
Required experience
- Three years’ relevant experience.
- Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
- Supervisory or lead experience.
- Vendor management experience.
- Budget management experience.
- Experience developing security standards and procedures.
Physical requirements
Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.
Working conditions
Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
