General summary

Creates and manages metadata for digital collections and projects throughout University Libraries. Creates original, descriptive cataloging of collection-level records.

Major duties

  • Creates, edits and verifies metadata related to objects in the digital collections using assigned standards and industry resources.
  • Manages and coordinates the process of implementing metadata, including project management. Collaborates with library staff to apply appropriate metadata schemas and standards. Provides quality control for digital object metadata.
  • Verifies and edits online catalog records in the integrated library system in compliance with established cataloging rules and standards.
  • Develops and maintains knowledge of current cataloging rules and changes, metadata schemas and standards and technical requirements of online systems. Researches new technologies and developments in digital applications and metadata implementation.
  • Participates in department-wide committees, task forces and teams.
  • Trains, evaluates and supervises staff and students.

Minimum qualifications

Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.

Required education

  • Master's degree in related field from an accredited institution.

Required experience

  • One year's relevant experience.
  • Experience In an academic library or library technical services.

Physical requirements

Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.

Working conditions

Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
