General summary
Assists the Pharmacist or Pharmacist Director, count, fill and label prescriptions. Communicates with insurance and specialty billing companies and performs computer data entry. Responsible for inventory ordering, check-in and stocking of shelves. Provides customer service.
Major duties
- Assists pharmacists in counting, filling, dispensing and labeling prescriptions.
- Communicates with Insurance and specialty companies. Processes invoices for payment
- Purchases medication according to department standards as necessary.
- Performs inventory control tasks, including returning expired medications and tracking credits, shortages and recalled items.
- Assists patients, and answers phone inquiries.
- Trains and supervises student employees.
Minimum qualifications
Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.
Required education
- Nine-month to one year certificate program.
Required experience
- One year's relevant experience.
Required other
- Current state of Michigan Pharmacy Technician license

Physical requirements
Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.
Working conditions
Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
