General summary

Manages planning and completion of University construction projects.

Major duties

  • Establishes standards and procedures to ensure compliance with state and local construction regulations, safety standards, labor agreements and University contract requirements.
  • Collaborates with architecture and engineering professionals to ensure construction specifications are complete and have necessary approvals.
  • Inspects projects for compliance with contract specifications; identifies and resolves problems.
  • Monitors project budgets and resolves cost issues.
  • Prepares and presents progress reports on construction and renovation projects.
  • Hires, trains and evaluates performance of full-time and part-time staff.

Minimum qualifications

Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.

Required education

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited institution.

Required experience

  • Eight years’ relevant experience.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Project management experience.
  • Budget management experience.
  • Experience managing contractors or vendors.

Desired qualifications

Desired other

  • Professional certification in engineering or architecture.

Physical requirements

Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.

Working conditions

Work is performed with exposure to any number of elements which may occasionally require some precautions such as safety glasses, protective clothing, ear protection, etc.
