General summary
Maintains building automation systems and provides technical support in planning and managing building operating equipment.
Major duties
- Maintains automated controls for building operating equipment. Monitors performance of heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems.
- Creates or modifies control sequences or programs to ensure the efficient operation of building operating equipment.
- Investigates programs with building operating equipment to determine if problems are caused by control systems or mechanical failures.
- Documents requirements or standards for heating, ventilation and air condition equipment to be used in specifications for construction or building modifications.
- Reviews construction drawings for compliance with the University’s energy-related standards and provides feedback to design professionals or outside contractors.
- Inspects construction or maintenance projects for compliance with the University’s energy-related standards for building operating equipment, and collaborates with project managers or outside contractors to correct deviations.
- Collaborates with maintenance techniques to updates status reports and provide information on changes in technology. Works with engineers on controls designs.
Minimum qualifications
Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.
Required education
- Some college coursework from an accredited institution.
Required experience
- Five years’ relevant experience.
- Knowledge of heating, ventilation and air conditioning mechanical and control systems.
- Experience reading technical drawings and construction or engineering specifications.
- Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
- Knowledge of relevant computer systems and networking.
Desired qualifications
Desired education
- Completion of a recognized apprenticeship in Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning.
Desired experience
- Knowledge of project management methodology.
Physical requirements
Light work with some physical demands such as continuously lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds, but rarely moving more than 25 to 50 pounds.
Working conditions
Work is performed with exposure to any number of elements which may occasionally require some precautions such as safety glasses, protective clothing, ear protection, etc.
