General summary

Supervises and supports restricted fund accountants. Assists with the financial and operational activities of the grants and contracts department.

Major duties

  • Provides leadership and oversight over post-award functions, including reviewing award terms and conditions. Responsible for subrecipient monitoring. Evaluates the risk associated with the variety of transactions.
  • Maintains the standard operating procedures for post award functions. Serves as approver for expenditure and award modifications and corrections following review and approval by restricted fund accountant. Establishes sponsored project accounts to capture critical award attributes and ensure data integrity.
  • Administers and maintains oversight of limited portfolio of sponsored programs as needed, including setup, administration, and closeout.
  • Serves as liaison between the University and external sponsors, colleges and departments. Serves on the research advisory team and represents the department in other University wide committees as required. Participates in policy development for University grant funds.
  • Oversees required yearly audit activities for grant funds and other federal and state agency audits for the University. Assists external auditors in annual audits of the University.
  • Manages month-end and fiscal year end closing process for grants and accounts receivable. Manages the financial reporting on all grant and contract funds.
  • Participates in accounting, fiscal management, business, technology and research meetings and trainings to meet annual professional development objectives.
  • Presents professional development workshops for University faculty and staff regarding post award administration.
  • Hires, trains, evaluates and supervises staff and student employees.

Minimum qualifications

Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.

Required education

  • Bachelor's degree in related field from an accredited institution.

Required experience

  • Five years' relevant experience.
  • Professional post award research administration experience.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Knowledge of federal regulations and University policy and procedures.
  • Excellent writing, research and analytic skills.
  • Experience with budgeting. Experience with contract language.
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with office software, including word processing, spreadsheets and presentation software.

Physical requirements

Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.

Working conditions

Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
