General summary

Coordinates departmental efforts to engage University staff and students in learning and personal development. Supervises processes and procedures for all aspects of Residence Life.

Major duties

  • Develops and oversees all facets of resident assistant, graduate assistant and full-time hall director training.
  • Responsible for all recruitment, hiring and personnel issues for Residence Life including resident assistants, graduate assistants and full-time hall director staff. Makes employment decisions. Oversees performance and discipline processes.
  • Infuses student learning and development into all interactions, processes and policies. Plans and develops programs to meet the developmental needs of students.
  • Assumes administrative responsibility for the department in the absence of the director. Represents department at University meetings, committees and functions as appropriate, including mental health liaison in absence of director to address all major mental health related incidents.

Minimum qualifications

Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.

Required education

  • Master's degree in related field from an accredited institution.

Required experience

  • Five years' relevant experience.
  • Formal training and experience in crisis intervention and conflict management.
  • Supervisory experience.

Required other

  • Ability to work irregular shifts and extended hours, including weekend and holiday rotation.

Physical requirements

Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.

Working conditions

Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
