General summary
Manages facility operations, maintenance and security of the College of Aviation buildings and grounds.
Major duties
- Manages facility operations, maintenance and security of the College of Aviation buildings, grounds and related equipment.
- Directs maintenance and repair work completed by staff, vendors or outside contractors. Conducts vendor research and monitors vendor contracts. Maintains working relationships with Facilities Management. Manages facilities operations, budgets and projects.
- Oversees and monitors safety and security of buildings and equipment. Supervises response to emergency situations requiring custodial and repair services.
- Inspects project work for compliance with work standards and project requirements. Ensures daily operations, custodial standards and expectations are met.
- Communicates with building occupants, University groups, vendors and contractors in order to provide information on status or timelines of projects.
- Utilizes University electronic work order system for the college. Creates or updates electronic work orders. Updates project records.
- Hires, trains and evaluates performance of part-time staff and student employees. Provides direction to full-time staff as needed.
Minimum qualifications
Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.
Required education
- Bachelor's degree in related field from an accredited institution.
Required experience
- Three years' relevant experience.
- Supervisory or lead experience.
- Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
Required other
- Relevant state-issued facility management certification.
- State of Michigan Storm Water Quality certification.
Physical requirements
Moderate work occasionally working in difficult position or with physical demands such as continuously lifting or moving materials from 25 to 50 pounds and occasionally lifting or moving materials greater than 50 pounds.
Working conditions
Work is performed with exposure to any number of elements which may occasionally require some precautions such as safety glasses, protective clothing, ear protection, etc.
