General summary

Responsible for the University’s Federal Direct Loan program, ensuring University compliance with federal and state, financial aid laws, regulations, and policies.

Major duties

  • Serves as a subject-matter expert for Federal Direct Loan program. Establishes strategies for the effective delivery of program aid awarded to students to support University recruitment and retention goals.
  • Administers federal and privately-sourced financial aid, including loans. Responsible for federal reporting, reconciliation, and year-end closeout procedures. Monitors fund balances, disbursements, and adjustments.
  • Collaborates with other department leaders to provide direction for the financial aid module within the student information system, including installation, upgrades and testing. Collaborates with information technology staff and compliance officer to optimize software systems and maintain compliance with regulatory agencies.
  • Conducts research, performs complex program data analysis, and generates analytical reports for awarding practices and spending projections.
  • Creates policies and procedures using extensive knowledge of financial aid regulations to develop internal controls and assessment. Trains faculty and staff on scholarship and loan operations, financial aid regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Services as a member of the financial aid strategic management team. Assists the director in short and long-term planning.

Required education

  • Bachelor's degree in related field from an accredited institution.

Required experience

  • Five years' relevant experience.
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of privacy regulations.
  • Knowledge of federal, state and institutional financial aid regulations and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of student information, financial aid, and other third party systems.
  • Ability to utilize reporting languages and logic to effectively read, understand and write related programming code.

Physical requirements

Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.

Working conditions

Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
