General summary
Maintains and repairs aircraft for the College of Aviation in a lead role.
Major duties
- Reviews inspection and maintenance records of all fleet aircraft and schedules maintenance in compliance with Federal Aviation Administration requirements and manufacturers’ specifications.
- Assigns maintenance or repair tasks to maintenance technicians.
- Troubleshoots reported problems with all aircraft systems, diagnoses causes and schedules repairs.
- Completes routine scheduled inspections, maintenance or repair tasks.
- Inspects completed maintenance or repairs for compliance with requirements and documents completion or corrective actions or determines aircraft is airworthy.
- Updates or reviews all hard copy and electronic maintenance and repair records.
- Provides direction and feedback to full-time and part-time staff.
- Performs quality assurance checks of completed maintenance and repair.
- Operates aircraft to or transport to or from maintenance facilities, to perform diagnostic tests or to verify that maintenance is complete.
Minimum qualifications
Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.
Required education
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited institution, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required experience
- Three years’ relevant experience.
- Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
- Knowledge of relevant Federal Aviation Administration regulations.
Required other
- Federal Aviation Administration air-frame and power-plant license.
- Inspection Authorization license.

Desired other
- Federal Aviation Administration private pilot license with certification in relevant aircraft.
Physical requirements
Moderate work occasionally working in difficult position or with physical demands such as continuously lifting or moving materials from 25 to 50 pounds and occasionally lifting or moving materials greater than 50 pounds.
Working conditions
Work is performed with exposure to any number of elements which may occasionally require some precautions such as safety glasses, protective clothing, ear protection, etc.
