General summary
Maintains computing hardware and software and supports end-users in a large department or college, often in a lead capacity.
Major duties
- Installs and configures computing equipment for assigned areas, ensuring compliance with University standards. Maintains inventory and recommends hardware and software improvements for the department.
- Provides technical support to end-users for all standard and department-specific applications, and daily activities such as troubleshooting and installing equipment and programs.
- Provides training and development of computer equipment, peripherals, software and mobile devices.
- Maintains the department’s server hardware, local area infrastructure and virtual server environments, including backup and restore processes.
- Follows, maintains and instructs end-users on department and University policies governing computer usage and data security administration. Ensures compliance with legal regulations.
- Monitors network performance and resolves any network performance issues.
- May administer the division’s directory service, computer access and user groups.
- May provide support to classroom instruction, including setting up audio-visual equipment, recording, streaming or other instructional technology needs.
- May represent the department’s needs and interests to the University’s information technology planning groups. May serve on relevant committees.
- Hires, trains, evaluates, and supervises student employees.
Minimum qualifications
Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.
Required education
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited institution, or a Bachelor’s degree in an unrelated field from an accredited institution combined with relevant experience.
Required experience
- Five years’ relevant experience.
- Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
Required other
- Must be available to provide system maintenance or end-user support outside of normal business hours.

- Set-up and maintenance of instructional technology hardware and software.
Desired other
- Relevant industry certification.
Physical requirements
Light work with some physical demands such as continuously lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds, but rarely moving more than 25 to 50 pounds.
Working conditions
Work is generally performed in a well lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or to any number of elements.
