General summary

Manages the veteran’s affairs educational benefits programs. Reviews and certifies veteran and dependent student enrollment to the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs and ensures compliance with the state approving agency.

Major duties

  • Provide accurate and timely reporting to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
  • Advise veterans, their dependents and active-duty military on procedures for attaining and using veteran affairs educational benefits. Informs benefit recipients of program eligibility and documentation requirements and assist them in applying for education benefits.
  • Maintains current knowledge of all veterans’ educational programs, as well as laws and regulations impacting benefit eligibility.
  • Informs the state approval agency and U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs of new programs, changes to programs and program deletions each academic year, as well as institutional changes.
  • Serve as the main point of contact to veteran affairs officials during annual audits. Coordinates with University departments to compile requested documentation.
  • Maintains documentation for all veteran students. Provides all available school records to representatives of the state approval agency and the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs.
  • Maintains annual training requirements in order to remain eligible to be a school certifying official.
  • Serves as a liaison for students to resolve payment issues.

Minimum qualifications

Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.

Required education

  • Some college coursework from an accredited institution.

Required experience

  • One year's relevant experience.

Physical requirements

Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.

Working conditions

Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
