General summary
Administers collective bargaining agreements, training, and advises management in labor relations issues.
Major duties
- Services as a grievance officer by attending hearings, conducting investigations, negotiating and implementing settlements and writing grievance answers.
- Supports the Labor Relations Director in contract negotiations, grievance hearings and acts as the liaison to Human Resources for applicable labor issues.
- Provides leadership and support for training and professional development activities. Serves as the trainer for subjects regarding contract interpretation, administration and corrective action.
- Consults with the department leadership to evaluate or recommend operations improvements, ensuring their compliance with collective bargaining agreements.
- Supports employment activities for bargaining unit employees including the hiring process, issuance of corrective action, drafting and revising job descriptions, and employee evaluations.
- Ensures confidentiality of all employee relations information.
Minimum qualifications
Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.
Required education
- Bachelor's degree in related field from an accredited institution.
Required experience
- Five years' relevant experience.
- Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience in labor and employee relations.
- Experience administering a collective bargaining agreement.
- Experience with labor contract negotiations.
- Experience developing and conducting training sessions.
Physical requirements
Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.
Working conditions
Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
