General summary

Plans, coordinates and performs advanced catalog functions in University Libraries.

Major duties

  • Ensures access to library resources by performing advanced cataloging Functions. Ensures the integrity and reliability of the library catalog and facilitates discovery of library resources.
  • Prioritizes and performs original and complex cataloging for print and electronic special format materials, including but not limited to audiovisual collections, thesis and dissertations, scores and rare and archival materials.
  • Improves user access to by correcting, updating and enhancing existing records, using professional judgement, expertise and research.
  • Contributes to developing local practice and guidelines for staff members to ensure adherence to internal and external cataloging rules and policies and the technical requirements of the integrated library system (ILS) and other online systems.

Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.

Required education

  • Bachelor's degree in related field from an accredited institution, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required experience

  • Two years’ relevant experience.
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Experience with word-processing, spreadsheets and databases.
  • Knowledge of integrated library management software and applications.

Physical requirements

Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.

Working conditions

Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
