General summary

Plans and manages flight training and maintenance operations for a College of Aviation remote campus.

Major duties

  • Establishes and maintains policies and procedures to ensure the safety and security of flight and maintenance staff and resources.
  • Monitors compliance with College of Aviation policies and state and federal regulations governing flight training, equipment maintenance and aviation safety.
  • Reviews and approves reports on student progress and maintenance of aircraft and instructional equipment.
  • Coordinates flight operations with fleet scheduling and local airport operations.
  • Hires, trains and evaluates performance of full-time and part-time staff.
  • Establishes and enforces safety standards.
  • Develops and manages budgets for flight instruction and maintenance operations.
  • Participates in College of Aviation planning and management committees.

Minimum qualifications

Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.

Required education

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited institution.

Required experience

  • Five years’ relevant experience.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Budget management experience.
  • Aviation industry experience.

Required other

  • Federal Aviation Administration Airline Transport Pilot certificate.
  • Must meet Federal Aviation Administration physical and medical standards for flight licensure.

Physical requirements

Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.

Working conditions

Work is performed with exposure to any number of elements which may occasionally require some precautions such as safety glasses, protective clothing, ear protection, etc.
