General summary

Performs various functions to ensure accurate and timely processing and distribution of University payroll.

Major duties

  • Prepares, updates, and processes payroll. Provides direction to management, staff, departments, and employees regarding payroll activities to ensure timely processing of payroll checks and deposits.
  • Participates in system upgrade testing and new project testing. Assists and supports timekeepers and supervisors regarding payroll processing.
  • Completes other special functions, such as issuing retro checks, and special checks, preparing vouchers and remittances, and processing stop payments.
  • Audits user account licenses and signoff procedures to ensure compliance with University policies and procedures.
  • Assists in the resolution of customer complaints, problems, and questions regarding taxes, withholdings, deductions, pay changes, pay rates, and hours worked.
  • Performs various other payroll and accounts payable functions as required.
  • Participates in special projects as assigned.

Minimum qualifications

Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.

Required education

  • Associate's degree, or two years' college coursework in a related field from an accredited institution.

Required experience

  • One year's relevant experience.
  • Payroll operations in automated timekeeping system.

Physical requirements

Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.

Working conditions

Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
