General summary

Directs operator crews and coordinates trials. Serves as functional director of pilot plants and main client contact.

Major duties

  • Serves as functional director of coating, paper, recycle and printing pilot plants and main client contact.
  • Directs operator crews for all pilot plant trials. Coordinates trial planning with clients and maintains relationships. Plans, conducts, and evaluates paper machine, print press and coater trials. Meets productivity, quality and product objectives established by clients.
  • Engineers modification projects, network expansions and upgrades. Maintains, troubleshoots and repairs pilot plant control systems and drives. Cross-trains operator functions and maintenance requirements.
  • Assists director with budgetary planning and scheduling.
  • Travels to promote pilot plants at conferences and markets services to external and internal clients.
  • Assumes director duties in their absence. Performs additional duties as requested.

Minimum qualifications

Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.

Required education

  • Bachelor's degree in related field from an accredited institution.

Required experience

  • Five years' relevant experience.
  • Technical experience in the paper industry, including knowledge of the paper-making, printing and coating processes.
  • Experience maintaining paper machinery and equipment.

Physical requirements

Moderate work occasionally working in difficult position or with physical demands such as continuously lifting or moving materials from 25 to 50 pounds and occasionally lifting or moving materials greater than 50 pounds.

Working conditions

Work is performed in an environment with extremely disagreeable or hazardous working conditions with exposure to any number of elements and hazards on a continual basis.
