General summary

Oversees University efforts to create a culture of outcomes assessment. Leads the process by initiating, developing, and supporting best practices in assessment to ensure the University complies with accreditation standards.

Major duties

  • Provides expertise and guidance in best practices for designing and conducting meaningful, manageable, and effective assessments, (planning, measurement, and data-based decision-making), to assure efforts for ongoing continuous quality improvement of programs and services across the institution and adherence to accreditation standards.
  • Evaluates campus needs for education, training, and professional development and creates, initiates, and implements learning opportunities and resources for all University stakeholders designed to meet those needs.
  • Serves as a contributing member of several University committees focused on student learning outcomes assessment. Oversees all aspects of the work of subcommittees within the department. Identifies areas for collaboration with other university stakeholders and cultivates ways to align assessment processes, data collection, and evaluation for coherence.
  • Oversees the review and evaluation of the assessment component of the program review and regional accreditation self-study reports to assess the culture of assessment at the institution (meta-assessment) and provides feedback and insights on best practices for ongoing continuous quality improvement.
  • Oversees the creation, development, implementation, management, evaluation, and modification of university assessment collection and reporting tools. Maintains vendor consultant relationships including negotiation of vendor contracts, upgrades, system testing, and account administration.
  • Initiates and maintains collaborative working relationships with colleagues throughout the institution to ensure an integrated approach to assessment and effectiveness. Represents the Office of Institutional Effectiveness as an active participant in institutional cross-collaborative standing and ad hoc committees.
  • Provides input into financial decisions related to institutional effectiveness resources to meet the mission and goals of the institution, division, and office. Works with Institutional Effectiveness leadership to set strategic priorities for the office.
  • Implements investigates, and evaluates results of institutional assessments. Creates and implements ways to share the results and helps the university community. Formulate action plans for using results for continuous improvement of programs and services.
  • Hires, trains, evaluates and supervises graduate assistants and staff.

Minimum qualifications

Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.

Required education

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field from an accredited institution.

Required experience

  • Three years' relevant experience.
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.

Physical requirements

Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.

Working conditions

Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
