General summary

Leads in the development, implementation, and assessment of student success and retention programs within the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences.

Major duties

  • Provides leadership and vision for the college’s science, technology, engineering, and mathematics talent expansion program. Works with the director of advising to establish, implement, and assess learning community schedules and cohorts for new students.
  • Develops student success programs and activities for student populations, first-time college students, transfer students, under-represented minorities, and other diverse student populations. Researches and adapts best practices to enhance programs and services.
  • Evaluates program effectiveness to increase student success, retention, and graduation. Manages and ensures accountability of the budget. Seeks internal and external resources to enhance programming.
  • Serves as the coordinator for specific programs at the University. Plans and facilitates group activities. Liaises with partner institutions to plan joint events and support students with a goal of retention to graduation and into graduate school.
  • Coordinates multiple course sections. Develops effective instructional and assessment plans based on best practices for student learning, retention, and success. Communicates the plans to instructors.
  • Serves as academic advisor for students. Teaches course sections for the preparatory cohort.
  • Develops marketing strategies to promote the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics talent expansion program.
  • Hires, trains, evaluates, and supervises multiple instructors, tutors, and staff. Develops and implements policies and procedures, tutor training manuals, and operations manuals. Performs related payroll functions.
  • Supervises student success center program staff.

Minimum qualifications

Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.

Required education

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field from an accredited institution.

Required experience

  • Two years’ relevant experience.
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.

Required other

  • Ability to work irregular shifts and extended hours, including weekends and holidays.

Physical requirements

Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.

Working conditions

Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
