General summary
Develops systems and procedures to ensure the availability and reliability of the University’s digital collections.
Major duties
- Develops, maintains and communicates policies and procedures supporting the digitization of the University’s collections.
- Oversees the installation, configuration and maintenance of hardware, software and peripherals necessary for digitization projects.
- Ensures system documentation is maintained accurately.
- Ensures equipment, software and procedures comply with the University’s policies and meet professional standards.
- Provides training to end-users or develops programs or documentation for end-user training. Provides end-user support.
- Monitors system performance and storage availability and recommends modifications as needed.
- Participates in University or department planning groups, providing advice and technical expertise on digitization.
- Provides recommendations on technology requirements and budgets to department leadership.
- Hires, trains and evaluates performance of staff and student employees.
Minimum qualifications
Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.
Required education
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field from and accredited institution, or Bachelor’s degree in an unrelated field from an accredited institution combined with relevant experience.
Required experience
- Five years’ relevant experience.
- Knowledge of imaging technology.
- Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
Required other
- Must be available to provide system maintenance or end-user support outside of normal business hours.
- Relevant industry certification.

Desired experience
- Project management experience.
Physical requirements
Light work with some physical demands such as continuously lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds, but rarely moving more than 25 to 50 pounds.
Working conditions
Work is generally performed in a well lit temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
