Director Transition Programs

General summary

Develops programs and services that engage students in their undergraduate transitions. Works collaboratively across the University to enhance yield and student transitions for success.

Major duties

  • Implements a freshman seminar program based on the student development theory that meets the transition needs of new students.
  • Oversees the development and implementation of all welcome week activities, transfer student services and new student orientation for transfer and freshman students.
  • Oversees the development of strategic support programs designed to meet the needs of contemporary adult student learners.
  • Establishes and maintains collaborative relationships with senior institutional leaders and departments in promoting student success.
  • Manages the department’s annual budget, resource allocations and expenditures.
  • Collaborates with campus partners to develop and deploy online training modules for new incoming students.
  • Contributes to implementation of strengths mentoring program.
  • Hires, trains, evaluates and supervises staff and student employees.

Minimum qualifications

Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.

Required education

  • Master's degree in related field from an accredited institution.

Required experience

  • Five years' relevant experience.
  • Supervisory or lead experience.
  • Budget experience.
  • Higher education experience.
  • Experience planning and implementing programs, conducting program evaluations and preparing reports.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills. Ability to work with diverse students, faculty and staff.
  • Knowledge of student development theory, inclusive of adult learning theory.

Physical requirements

Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds. 

Working conditions

Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
