General summary
Manages the planning, development, installation and maintenance of the University’s information technology network.
Major duties
- Establishes and promotes standards for the design and maintenance of network architecture.
- Researches and recommends network hardware and software.
- Monitors network performance, identifies and resolves network problems.
- Defines and documents project requirements, assigns resources and monitors progress.
- Hires, trains and evaluates performance of staff.
- Manages operating budget and billing for network services.
- Participates in department, University and external work groups to provide expertise on network technology.
Minimum qualifications
Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.
Required education
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited institution, or a Bachelor’s degree in a non-related field from an accredited institution combined with relevant experience.
Required experience
- Five years’ relevant experience.
- Supervisory or lead experience.
- Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
- Project management experience.
Required other
- Must be available to provide end-user support outside of normal business hours.

- Budget management experience.

- Relevant industry certification.
Physical requirements
Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.
Working conditions
Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
