General summary
Serves as the commissioning authority for University construction projects. Identifies and coordinates resolutions to issues on construction and maintenance projects, coordinating with engineering partners. Manages the building information modeling process and serves as the representative for energy and environmental design initiatives on campus. Provides mechanical engineering support.
Major duties
- Develops and implements procedures for construction project commissioning. Monitors, oversees, and inspects construction progress of major capital investments projects to ensure professional engineering standards and codes are implemented. Leads commissioning progress meeting.
- Manages and oversees the monitoring-based commissioning initiative utilizing detection and diagnostics software tool for the University.
- Coordinates with University maintenance to prioritize and assign tasks to address diagnostic results by cost as well as energy, comfort, and maintenance.
- Conducts site observations visits. Prepares field reports on the status and completion of projects with respect to compliance. Creates test procedures to document building system performance and engineering manuals.
- Acts as a liaison to coordinate activities and system training. Ensure that building and maintenance personnel receive the required training to operate building equipment and systems.
- Compiles service maintenance manuals for capital construction projects to ensure that the maintenance department has all the materials required to maintain the building.
- Maintains and updates the energy and environmental design initiatives guidelines.
- Coordinates with the engineering staff to identify energy conservation measures and to prepare budgetary analysis for deferred maintenance. Prepares and presents materials for energy conservation and makes recommendations.
- Provides mechanical engineering support for assigned construction and maintenance projects. Works with others to ensure that appropriate personnel inside and outside the University are assigned to the correct issue.
- Participate in professional trade associations and organizations.
Minimum qualifications
Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.
Required education
- Bachelor's degree in related field from an accredited institution.
Required experience
- Eight years' relevant experience.
- Experience with commissioning for construction.
- Experience with servicing, trouble shooting and building mechanical electrical and control systems.
- Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, including graphically.
- Strong collaboration and teamwork skills.
Required other
- National Certified Building Commissioning Professional (Association of Energy Engineers) LEED Accredited Professional.
- Ability to work outside, in unconditioned, confined or high places.
Physical requirements
Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.
Working conditions
Work is performed with exposure to any number of elements which may occasionally require some precautions such as safety glasses, protective clothing, ear protection, etc.
