General summary
Provides strategy for and directs the development and maintenance of information technology resources for a moderately large department, college or division in a multi-platform computing environment.
Major duties
- Establishes and maintains operating policies and procedures for information technology staff and users in the department, ensuring these comply with University standards and industry best practices.
- Hires, trains, supervises and evaluates performance of information technology staff in the department.
- Provides strategic leadership for information technology support for the department, including assessment, project management and participation in University-wide information technology initiatives.
- Manages the installation, maintenance, repair, and decommissioning of information technology hardware and software for the department.
- Ensures the reliability and compatibility of all equipment and software.
- Manages the department’s information technology budget. Monitors and approves purchases and expenses.
- Ensures the security of the unit’s information technology resources.
- Establishes and monitors policies on user access, data standards, back-up and disaster recovery.
- Monitors system performance and directs changes to ensure system stability and reliability.
Minimum qualifications
Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.
Required education
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited institution.
Required experience
- Three years’ relevant experience.
- Experience with policy development and regulatory compliance.
- Supervisory or lead experience.
- Budget management experience..
- Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.

- Training or certification in relevant operating systems or application software.
Physical requirements
Light work with some physical demands such as continuously lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds but rarely moving more than 25 to 50 pounds.
Working conditions
Work is generally performed in a well lit temperature controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
