General summary

Directs all aspects of the Michigan Gear Up program at the University.

Major duties

  • Provides leadership and vision for the Michigan Gear Up grant program at the University. Develops programs and activities for target populations. Researches best practices and trends to enhance programs and services. Evaluates program to determine the effectiveness of services.
  • Develops and implements policies and procedures for the program. Oversees daily functions of the unit. Ensures compliance with department, University, state, and federal policies and procedures
  • Updates program website through the content management system ensuring compliance with University guidelines. Ensures financial and budgetary accountability of the program and seeks funding opportunities.
  • Serves as program liaison to the funding agency, campus partners, the community, and other external partners. Represents the program to the campus community. Develops marketing strategies to promote the program.
  • Coordinates and oversees the collection of program data. Completes and submits program evaluations and reports to the State of Michigan, external partners, agencies, and advisory boards.
  • Hires, supervises, trains, and evaluates staff and student employees.

Minimum qualifications

Required education

  • Bachelor's degree in related field from an accredited institution.

Required experience

  • Three years' relevant experience.
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.

Physical requirements

Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.

Working conditions

Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
