General summary

Provides client intake, administrative, and marketing support for a regional Small Business Development Center.

Major duties

  • Resolves complex customer questions related to starting a business, accessing capital, tax requirements, and available federal, state, or local programs for small business owners by providing clear, professional, and timely guidance.
  • Supports regional marketing and communications efforts for the Michigan Small Business Development Center(MI SBDC) Southwest Region by developing social media content, preparing email communications, updating website information, and coordinating promotional materials.
  • Assists with planning, promoting, and documenting training events and programs. Ensures marketing activities align with MI SBDC and University brand guidelines. Coordinates messaging with MI SBDC Lead Center.
  • Generates training, economic impact, and activity reports and prepares additional analysis or correspondence as requested by leadership. Maintains accurate client records in compliance with U. S. Small Business Administration, Michigan Economic Development Center and the MI SBDC.
  • Supports special projects, outreach initiatives, and program communications by assisting with content development, client communications, internal coordination, and other activities that advance regional goals and statewide initiatives.
  • Develops familiarity with and communicates knowledgeably about a wide range of small business support programs when engaging with the public.

Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.

Required education

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Required experience

  • Three years' relevant experience.
  • Desire for continuous lifelong learning.

Required other

  • Ability to work irregular shifts and extended hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to travel in state.

Physical requirements

Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.

Working conditions

Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
