General summary
Performs a variety of complex accounting and financial functions to oversee the payment plan system.
Major duties
- Executes accounts receivable delinquent account collection efforts. Completes and documents accounts and assigns unpaid accounts to collections agencies.
- Ensures compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Completes daily reporting process and various reconciliations of student account balances with collection agencies and the Perkins Loan program. Ensures proper account coding.
- Counsels internal and external customers regarding Accounts Receivable processes and procedures. Ensures compliance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act.
- Provides the highest level of customer service.
- Reviews and processes loan consolidations, total and permanent disability requests and assignment of delinquent Perkins Loan to Department of Education. Complies with complex Department of Education requirements.
Minimum qualifications
Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.
Required education
- Associate's degree or two years' college coursework in a related field from an accredited institution or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required experience
- Two years' relevant experience.
- Experience working in a financial services, accounting or customer service orientated position.
- Understanding of basic accounting concepts.
- Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to multitask.
- Ability to work in a fast paced environment.
- Ability to utilize positive interpersonal and customer services skills.
Physical requirements
Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.
Working conditions
Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
