General summary
Manages the development and maintenance of University-wide databases.
Major duties
- Plans and manages large scale database projects.
- Ensures that database applications comply with University requirements and professional standards.
- Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with information technology vendors.
- Develops, documents and promotes standards to ensure the reliability and accessibility of University databases.
- Creates or modifies programming, or configures application software, to access and maintain databases. Installs, tests and debugs database application software.
- Maintains databases through software upgrades, patches, data migration, backup and recovery, and writes programs to automate these processes.
- Hires, trains and evaluates performance of staff.
- Provides training to end-users or develops programs or documentation for end-user training. Provides end-user-support. Provides technical expertise to project teams and production support programmers.
- Researches and recommends new software or technology to maintain database systems. Gathers and documents requirements for new or modified databases and user access programs.
Minimum qualifications
Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.
Required education
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited institution, or Bachelor’s degree in a non-related field from an accredited institution combined with relevant experience.
Required experience
- Five years’ relevant experience
- Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
- Project management experience.
- Experience Developing programming or database standards.
- Supervisor or lead experience.
- Vendor management experience.
Physical requirements
Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.
Working conditions
Work is generally performed in a well lit temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
